Back by popular demand, we are pleased to announce new dates for the 2nd annual Feder Knives x Florentine Kitchen Knives ‘Make Your First Kitchen Knife Workshop’.
Friend, blacksmith and fellow knife-maker Geoff Feder, Knife Talk podcast host and the man behind Feder Knives, will be joining us again here in Barcelona - all the way from his workshop in upstate New York, for a two day knife making course on the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of August 2020. You will leave our workshop with a brand new chef’s knife - made by you!
This year, there are two workshops to choose from:
6h workshop - this course will see you right the way through from grinding your blade onto hand-sanding it, then to your handle assembly, shaping and finishing. A Tormek sharpening system lesson is also included as well as engraving the finished product. This will mean a little more time in the machine room and more 1-on-1 time and will give you a fuller experience of making the knife from start to finish. An estimated total of six hours in the workshop over two days.
- 4h workshop - in this workshop, you’ll skip the initial machine grinding of the blade, and begin with pre-grinded and heat treated blade but complete all of the processes from that point onwards. This part is just like the full grinding workshop. An estimated total of four hours in the workshop over two days.
These workshops are designed for people with no knife making experience and who are interested in learning the basics of knife-making or exploring it as a hobby. We will not be teaching or implementing heat treatment in this course. The blanks will already be hardened. It will offer the chance to make something both functional and beautiful which you can use daily for years to come.
We will host an evening welcome party at the shop on Friday the 31st of July and we will be happy to help set up accommodation and recommend activities and dining in the city. We advise that you arrive a day early and leave a day after the workshop, but if needed we can schedule specific slots so you could arrive and/or leave within the weekend.
If you have any questions about the workshop please don’t hesitate to drop us an email. Barcelona get’s pretty busy in August, so we recommend you confirm soon so that you can book accommodation well in advance.
